Dear Discovery Families,
Students began taking the diagnostic assessment for i-Ready, the online component of our face-to-face curriculum, Ready, last week and will continue to do so this week. This diagnostic assessment is administered three times per year. Some students also began their online instruction using i-Ready. We have posted information on our website for families to familiarize themselves with i-Ready and begin looking at parent reports that teachers will distribute. The information is located under the Academics tab then Curriculum. Teachers are still concluding the i-Ready assessment and will provide your login information as well as diagnostic reports once assessments are complete. Dr. Nohara and Mrs. Kettleson will also have samples of the curriculum at this week’s Open House.

Under Nevada’s Read by 3 legislation, Senate Bill 391, all K-3 students must take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. Students in Grades 1-3 will take the MAP assessment during the fall, winter, and spring, while students in kindergarten will take the assessment during winter and spring. The MAP assessment must be administered within 30 instructional days of the start of school so students in Grades 1-3 will begin taking the MAP assessment this week. Also required for our kindergarten students is the Brigance assessment. Brigance is administered in the fall. Our kindergarten teachers began administering the Brigance assessment because it must also be administered within 30 instructional days of the start of the school year.

This year, we will use Infinite Campus’ Parent Portal to keep families informed of their child’s attendance and academic progress. Once the Parent Portal is open, you will receive your username and password information to access the site. We anticipate this will happen in the next 3-4 weeks.

Remember that this Wednesday is our first Kindness Wednesday and we are encouraging all students to wear a shirt that conveys a message of kindness. Classrooms are working on their design submissions for the shirt-decorating contest. Students will then vote for their favorite design and shirts will be available for purchase.

Thank you,

DCS Administrative Team
