The Discovery Charter School is growing.    We are adding over 100 students at Hillpointe and over 70 students at Mesa Vista.  As a result of this growth we are adding both teaching and support staff positions.  We have listed those positions on our web page, and we are advertising on Craig’s list.  We will be hiring 10-12 new teachers grades K-8, special programs teachers, teacher’s aides, a school health office nurse, and a new office support position.  We encourage all of our staff and families to spread the word about our openings and to encourage qualified friends, family and contacts to apply.  We will be interviewing during the first two weeks of June and on through the summer as we seek out candidates to share our vision and assist us in defining our programs.

WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE VOLUNTEER TIME AND ENERGY OF FAMILIES AND STUDENTS WHO JOINED WITH OUR STAFFS TO CREATE FUN AND SUCCESSFUL CARNIVALS, TALENT SHOWS AND FESTIVALS.  We generated almost $1500.00, between the two celebrations with the money to be used on school supplies.  More important than the money is the value of families, students, and staff working together in celebrations.

Discovery Administrator, Clark Price signed up and attended a lottery distribution of computer and office equipment available from a closed charter school program.  We were given a lottery number and took our turns with a dozen other charter schools from around the state here in Nevada, as we selected items at no cost as they were purchased by state funds.  We ended up with a dozen laptops, 5 printers, and another dozen electronic notebooks.  The equipment will be shared equally by our two programs.

Please show your thanks to the Fresh and Easy markets as we received a check for $1,120.00 from our efforts in the Fresh and Easy school fundraiser program.

Discovery Charter School, Mesa Vista campus, is planning on having a Summer Adventure program this summer for the students in grades 3 – 8. It will run June 18th through July 27th, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 – 11:30. The morning will be divided into two sections; each lasting an hour and a half. One section will be with Mr. Grimyser and the students will read, be read to, and study the Civil War. The other section will be conducted by Miss Ayala and consist of small hands-on science experiments/projects and assorted crafts. Our intention is to make this both fun and challenging. The fee for enrolling your child in this program is $200.00 due by the last week of school. Please return the permission slip by June 1st. The maximum number of students is 40 and the minimum we need is 25. Transportation must be provided by the parents/guardians. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask one of the teachers.
