“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.” —Albert Einstein
The Discovery Charter School has its purpose firmly set in two strong learning commitments: (1) The overwhelming research data that highlights the importance of a family partnership in all learning, and (2) The proof that students and families can strengthen all learning skills by focusing on areas of interest, guided by teachers who create a great curiosity and stress finding answers. We believe that the process of finding their own answers is what drives students to the passion of real learning.
“Question this and question that
and ask and ask and ask
Your questions are your answers
As you meet each learning task”
Songs from The Wishingstone, Your Questions Are The Answers
We must not forget how important the Inquiry Method of teaching and learning is to Project-Based Learning. We know that early on in young children’s lives their curiosity drives their growth in all areas of their development. We are working very hard to capture that curiosity and ignite the desire to learn in our students. Our Advisors are driven to model and teach students how to select individual interest areas, frame a series of questions, research a wide variety of resources, and find answers. When it works right, the identification of answers gives students a purpose to their learning, and creates more and more questions and high interest accumulation of knowledge. We encourage families to stress the importance of using questions to help students select projects, solve problems, and guide them in individualizing their learning experiences. We remember the early days of “Why, Why, Why”, in children’s lives and the Discovery Charter School is looking to weave that same curiosity in all of our students each day.
“As you study lessons To search and learn and grow
Your questions are the answers
To all you need to know”

Meet Ms. Laman-Elementary Advisor at Hillpointe
This is my 18th year in the classroom. I have taught for the CCSD and two private schools here in town. My last position was lead teacher for the 1st grade at Las Vegas Day School. I have taught Pre-K through 3rd grade and subbed up to 6th. It is great to be back in the classroom. I have spent the last two years working with children of all ages who are separated from their siblings in the foster care system. I also have two teenage girls of my own.
Meet Miss Kritzler-Elementary Advisor at Mesa Vista
Hi my name is Miss Kritzler, I am the new Kindergarten teacher here at Discovery Charter School at the Mesa Vista campus and I absolutely love it! I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and I moved to Las Vegas 16 years ago with my family (which I believe makes me a native). I attended college at UNLV and was part of the Greek organization Alpha Delta Pi. Some of the hobbies that I enjoy in my spare time include working out, zumba classes, and baking with my friends (even though I don’t think that baking and working out go well together) . I am so thankful to be a part of Discovery Charter School and I can’t wait to see what the year brings.
Advisors are available for scheduled parent/teacher meetings in addition to our 9 week and 27 week parent/teacher conferences. Please contact your child’s advisor to schedule a meeting.
